The Boyertown Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight defeat. They took a serious blow against Spring-Ford, falling 59-24. Boyertown was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-12.
Despite the defeat, Boyertown had strong showings from Madelyn Weaver, who scored 14 points along with two steals, and Callie Wieber, who scored three points. That was a full 58.3% of Boyertown's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Anna Azzara continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Spring-Ford, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Azzara has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Katie Tiffan, who scored 14 points.
Boyertown has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Spring-Ford, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 16-3.
Boyertown will head out on the road to take on the Titans at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Central Bucks South presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Bears in Pennsylvania (the Titans are ranked 133rd, while the Bears are ranked 412th). As for Spring-Ford, they will look to defend their home court on Sunday against the Crusaders at 3:45 p.m. Lancaster Catholic is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
