After flying high against the Tug Valley Panthers last Thursday, the WestSide Renegades came back down to earth. WestSide opened the new year with a less-than-successful 45-41 defeat to they on Wednesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for them in their matchups with Mingo Central: they've now lost eight in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mingo Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Addie Smith, who scored 15 points along with five assists and three steals. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least 25% of Mingo Central's points. Jayden Bailey was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
WestSide's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Mingo Central, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
WestSide will be playing at home against Independence at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mingo Central's road trip will continue as they head out to face Williamstown at 6:15 a.m. on January 6th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in West Virginia (Williamstown is ranked 15th, while Mingo Central is ranked 25th).
