On Thursday, Ripon Christian came up short against Patterson and fell 47-36. While losing is never fun, Ripon Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 663rd, while Patterson is ranked 51st).
When it comes to explaining why Ripon Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maddie Yonker. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Yonker scored a full 33.3% of Ripon Christian's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kara Kessler, who scored 11 points.
Ripon Christian struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Patterson was led to victory by Siena Musson and Taylor Mason. Musson scored 15 points, while Mason scored ten points along with seven steals. Mason is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Goins, who scored four points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Ripon Christian bumped their record down to 4-3 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Patterson, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
Ripon Christian will head out on the road to face off against Los Banos at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Los Banos will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Patterson will be home for the holidays to greet Ripon at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Ripon is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
