The Calvary Baptist Cougars will head out on the road to face off against The Webb Schools Gauls at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Calvary Baptist has seven straight victories, The Webb Schools has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
The Webb Schools' hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Monday: Calvary Baptist hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. Everything went the Cougars' way against Bethel Christian on Tuesday as they made off with a 13-0 win. Considering the Cougars have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Chris Bacarella and R.J. Franco were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Bacarella struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Franco struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Bacarella has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Bacarella scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3, while Franco went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Bacarella is becoming a predictor of Calvary Baptist's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Devin Debuono, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Calvary Baptist is 8-1 when Debuono posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Zaedik Mcphail, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Calvary Baptist was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, The Webb Schools came up short against Capistrano Valley Christian two weeks ago, falling 14-2.
Alec Kaushal made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Gavin Hamilton also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Calvary Baptist pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for The Webb Schools, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.
The Webb Schools' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Calvary Baptist has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. It's a different story for The Webb Schools, though, as they've been averaging 10.4 hits. Given Calvary Baptist's sizable advantage in that area, the Gauls will need to find a way to close that gap.
