The McConnellsburg Spartans couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 38-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tussey Mountain on Monday. McConnellsburg lost against Tussey Mountain in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 59-34 score last time.
Tussey Mountain can attribute much of their success to Cara Benton, who scored 8 points along with 9 rebounds. Benton is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Adyson Weyandt, who scored 7 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
McConnellsburg's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Tussey Mountain, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McConnellsburg will take on Cumberland Valley Christian at 5:30 a.m. on Monday. As for Tussey Mountain, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Southern Fulton at 7:30 p.m.
