The Gaston Day Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 25 points or more this season. They really took it to Westchester Country Day for the full four quarters, racking up a 89-61 victory at home. Given Gaston Day's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Westchester Country Day is ranked 373rd), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gaston Day got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Braylen Todd out in front who scored 16 points along with eight assists and six rebounds. The game was Todd's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kurt Hunter, who scored 21 points.
Gaston Day's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 84.4 points per game. As for Westchester Country Day, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gaston Day will challenge Trinity Academy at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. As for Westchester Country Day, they will head out on the road to face off against Salem Baptist Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Salem Baptist Christian comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
