The New Iberia Yellowjackets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 20 points or more this season. They blew past St. Martinville 66-31 on the road. With that win, New Iberia brought their scoring average up to 50.6 points per game.
Leading New Iberia to victory were Austin Delahoussaye and Otis Anderson. Delahoussaye scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Anderson dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Kentravion Smith, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
Despite the loss, St. Martinville saw an underclassman step up: Kristian Batiste scored 12 points. Batiste continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Tyren Syon was another key contributor, scoring five points.
The win was the fifth in a row for New Iberia, bringing their record for this year to 9-1. As for St. Martinville, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.
New Iberia's road trip will continue as they head out to face Northwest at 7:00 p.m. on December 21st. Northwest will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Louisiana Rankings (they are ranked 89th, while New Iberia is ranked 11th). St. Martinville will be home for the holidays to greet Cecilia at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
