It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Downey Vikings can now relate to. They took a 49-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Aztecs on Thursday. Downey was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Mark Keppel apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2021.
Downey's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Vaughn, who scored 15 points along with five steals. Vaughn has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Genesis Salinas was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Downey's loss dropped their record down to 16-13. As for Mark Keppel, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-10 record this season.
Downey does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mark Keppel, they will head out on the road to face off against Mira Costa at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mark Keppel will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Mira Costa surely won't give up without a fight.
