After losing to the Chestnut Ridge Lions the last time they met, the Greater Johnstown Trojans decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Greater Johnstown sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 50-47 win over Chestnut Ridge on Friday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Greater Johnstown.
Chestnut Ridge lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ashlie Weaver, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Weaver scored a full 40.4% of Chestnut Ridge's points, the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Isabella Hillegass, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds.
Greater Johnstown now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Chestnut Ridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greater Johnstown will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Hollidaysburg at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hollidaysburg will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Chestnut Ridge will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Westmont Hilltop at 7:15 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
