Central is 0-10 against Calexico since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Central Spartans the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Calexico Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on January 16th. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Thursday, Central came up short against Yuma Catholic and fell 51-38. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Central in their matchups with Yuma Catholic: they've now lost nine in a row.
Despite the defeat, Central had strong showings from Victoria Zamora, who scored 14 points along with four steals, and Mya McClain, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Zamora hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Julianna Estrada, who scored no points along with five assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Calexico also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to West Hills by a score of 41-32. Calexico has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Central has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Calexico, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.
