Even though the Temecula Valley Golden Bears have not done well against the Chaparral Pumas recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Temecula Valley came out on top against Chaparral by a score of 57-46. That's another feather in the cap for Temecula Valley, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Temecula Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sienna Fergerson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Fergerson also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Karlee Wellonen, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Chaparral's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maya Ford, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Ford has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Angela Dela Cruz was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Temecula Valley has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Chaparral, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-7.
Temecula Valley is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Murrieta Mesa at 5:30 p.m. on January 9th. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: LaKaila Trimble and Fergerson. As for Chaparral, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Great Oak at 5:30 p.m. on January 9th. Great Oak is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
