The Elsinore Tigers had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They took down Canyon Springs 45-31. For Elsinore, this counts as revenge for the 37-28 loss the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.
Leading Elsinore to victory were Niara Smith and Ashirah Williams. Smith dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds, while Williams scored nine points along with eight steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Miranda Garcia, who scored six points along with four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Canyon Springs lost, one person who can't be blamed is Iyana Rojas. Despite the final result, she scored five points along with five steals. Rojas is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Izabella Tejada, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Elsinore has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-12 record this season. As for Canyon Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-11.
Elsinore will head out on the road to face off against the Titans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Temescal Canyon presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Tigers in California (the Titans are ranked 199th, while the Tigers are ranked 688th). As for Canyon Springs, they will be playing at home against the Ravens at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Vista del Lago has now lost 17 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 13.
