The San Pedro Pirates scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Rancho Dominguez 81-21 on the road. San Pedro has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 25 points or more this season.
San Pedro's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shalia Coleman, who scored 17 points. Coleman has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last four times she's played. Robyn Lynn Smith was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Despite the loss, Rancho Dominguez saw an underclassman step up: Audrey Baker scored 12 points along with eight rebounds. That was a full 57.1% of Rancho Dominguez's points, marking the 17th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Rancho Dominguez struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
San Pedro has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. As for Rancho Dominguez, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. San Pedro won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Stars at 10:30 a.m. on January 27th. Mary Star of the Sea is out to stop a seven-game streak of losses at home. As for Rancho Dominguez, they will head out on the road to take on the Colts at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Carson presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Lobos in California (the Colts are ranked 523rd, while the Lobos are ranked 1049th).
