Williamson is 1-9 against Athens since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Williamson Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Athens Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Williamson is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
Williamson scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 71-40 victory over Wyalusing Valley on the road. Williamson has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 21 points or more this season.
Williamson can attribute much of their success to Olivia Meisner, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds, and Taylor Rae Jones, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Meisner has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Avery Vinsek, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Athens, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 55-38 loss to Troy on Friday. While losing is never fun, Athens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 570th, while Troy is ranked 172nd).
Williamson is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. As for Athens, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-11.
Everything came up roses for Williamson against Athens in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 46-16 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Williamson since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
