The Quaker Valley Quakers and the Bishop Canevin Crusaders will round out the year against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Quaker Valley scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They blew past Ambridge 82-61. Given Quaker Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 238th, while Ambridge is ranked 580th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Quaker Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Joey Coyle, who scored 24 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Coyle has scored at least 25% of Quaker Valley's points. Another player making a difference was Dominic Cox-Giles, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Bishop Canevin's recent rough patch got a bit rougher two weeks ago after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 88-56 loss at the hands of Avonworth.
Quaker Valley's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Bishop Canevin, they bumped their record down to 1-4 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Quaker Valley didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Bishop Canevin in their previous meeting back in January of 2021, but they still walked away with a 51-47 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Quaker Valley since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
