Steward waltzed into their match on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They walked away with a 55-48 win over the Hopewell Blue Devils.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Steward to victory, but perhaps none more so than Xavier Nelson, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. Nelson is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Preston Day, who went 5 of 7 en route to 13 points.
Hopewell's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamese Jordan, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds. That's the most points Jordan has posted since back in February of 2024. Nick Byrd was another key player, putting up 14 points and five boards.
Steward's victory bumped their record up to 12-4. As for Hopewell, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 12-2 record.
Steward wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 58-52 defeat against St. Christopher's on the 27th. Hopewell has also already played their next contest, a 77-29 win against Dinwiddie on the 28th.
