The Stanton Blue Devils will square off against the Eagle's View Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Stanton's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three matchups, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Stanton came into this matchup off a tough ten-run defeat on Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Yulee by a score of 3-1 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Blue Devils have suffered since March 6th.
Stanton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Justo, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Eagle's View). They put the hurt on Westside with a sharp 21-5 victory on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won four in a row.
Daniel Chiong made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Eagle's View is 3-1 when Chiong posts two or more runs, but 4-13 otherwise.
In other batting news, Eagle's View got a massive performance out of River Ahrens, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Ahrens is becoming a predictor of the Warriors' success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 4-2 (and 3-12 when he doesn't). Blaine Hudson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Eagle's View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .644. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westside only posted an OBP of .440.
Stanton's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Eagle's View, their victory bumped their record up to 7-14.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Stanton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Eagle's View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
