Basketball Recap: Sunrise Mountain Piles Up the Points Against Independence

Sunrise Mountain won the last time they faced Independence and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Mustangs simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Patriots 74-47. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Sunrise Mountain was led to victory by Colton Buckner and Nate Carney. Buckner went 7-for-10 on his way to 19 points and six rebounds, while Carney dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Isaac Maskovich, who shot 50% from the field en route to 14 points.

Sunrise Mountain was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Independence only racked up eight.

Independence's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kevin Wiley Jr., who posted ten points, and Anthony Colonna, who earned nine points.

Sunrise Mountain now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Independence, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Looking ahead, Sunrise Mountain won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Mountain Ridge at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Independence, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll challenge Browne at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Patriots will be up against the Bruins' rather soft defense (which has allowed 68.25 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
