Walnut and Rowland are an even 4-4 against one another since November of 2015, but not for long. The Walnut Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Rowland Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Walnut suffered their biggest loss since December 6, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 67-36 loss at the hands of Diamond Bar. Walnut was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-13.
The losing side was boosted by Maileeh Suasti, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. Claire Olia was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Rowland slipped by South Hills 49-48 on Tuesday. The win was just what Rowland needed coming off of a 69-42 loss in their prior game.
Walnut's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-10. As for Rowland, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-16.
Walnut came out on top in a nail-biter against Rowland in their previous meeting on January 9th, sneaking past 58-56. The rematch might be a little tougher for Walnut since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
