Riverview is 2-7 against Deer Lakes since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Riverview Raiders will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Deer Lakes Lancers at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Riverview had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They blew past Propel Braddock Hills, posting a 52-10 win on the road. Given Riverview's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Propel Braddock Hills is ranked 588th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Riverview can attribute much of their success to Lola Abraham, who scored ten points along with six assists and three steals, and Katerina Tsambis, who scored 12 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Isabel Chaparro, who scored eight points.
Even though Deer Lakes has not done well against Carlynton recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Deer Lakes simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Carlynton 51-18 on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Deer Lakes has managed all season.
Riverview's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Deer Lakes, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Riverview took a serious blow against Deer Lakes when the teams last played back in December of 2021, falling 61-19. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Riverview was down 41-11.
