The Berean Christian Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Foothill Falcons at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Berean Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Berean Christian is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Bradshaw Christian on Wednesday. They lost 7-0 to the Pride. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.
Berean Christian saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zack Upshaw, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Foothill, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against California on Wednesday, sneaking past 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Falcons have posted since February 28th.
Take Sato-Kreis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Landon Comerford and Tanner Tarpley did most of the damage at the plate: Comerford scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Tarpley went 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Tarpley launched this season.
Foothill has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Berean Christian, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Berean Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Foothill struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Berean Christian couldn't quite get it done against Foothill in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 as they fell 5-2. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
