The Westminster Wolves will be taking part in a tournament against the Holy Family Tigers at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Westminster will be strutting in after a win while Holy Family will be coming in after a loss.
Westminster gave up the first runs last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over Mountain Range. Considering the Wolves have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Westminster let Eva Muniz and Ryanne Martin run wild. Muniz went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Martin went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs Martin has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Alexa Martinez, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Westminster was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Holy Family faced Broomfield in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Tigers fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 2-1. The Tigers' defeat signaled the end of their 11-game winning streak.
Emmaline Humphreys spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Holy Family saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaelyn Sandoval, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
The victory made it two in a row for Westminster and bumps their season record up to 11-12. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Holy Family, their loss dropped their record down to 19-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Westminster hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Holy Family struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
