Basketball Recap: Linfield Christian Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Auti Cabrera and Charli Calas

After flying high against Santa Rosa Academy last Saturday, Linfield Christian came back down to earth. The match between the Linfield Christian Lions and the Hemet Bulldogs didn't end well, with the Linfield Christian Lions falling 67-50. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lions of the 64-50 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

Charli Calas and Auti Cabrera certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Calas dropped a double-double on 18 points and 16 boards, while Cabrera went 5 of 7 on her way to 11 points. What's more, Calas also racked up three blocks, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Natalie Zaruka, who posted six points and eight rebounds.

Hailey Wolbeck was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 16 boards for Hemet. Ruby Gonzalez- Horta was another key player, putting up eight points along with 14 boards and seven assists.

Linfield Christian dropped their record down to 3-8 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Hemet, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Linfield Christian Lions face off against the Elsinore Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hemet, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-46 victory against Tahquitz on the 10th.
