Lutheran is a perfect 7-0 against Air Academy since September of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Lions will welcome the Kadets at 6:00 p.m. Lutheran will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
Lutheran barely beat Lewis-Palmer the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lions were the clear victors by an 18-6 margin over the Rangers on Monday. Considering the Lions have won 11 contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Meanwhile, Air Academy faced Cheyenne Mountain in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Kadets took a 17-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Red-Tailed Hawks. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (ten), the Kadets still had to take the loss.
Maeleigh Hunt put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. Hunt was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Hunt wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Williams, who fired off three home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-5. Williams has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last four times she's played. Another was Alex Finkle, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Lutheran's victory bumped their record up to 17-4. As for Air Academy, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 14-4-1 record.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lutheran has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .478. However, it's not like Air Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .474. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Lutheran's way against Air Academy in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Lutheran made off with an 11-1 win. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Kadets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
