Mar Vista scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of the Coronado Islanders by a score of 45-42. The Mariners were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Islanders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Mar Vista lost, don't look at Anissa Smith. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 57.1% of Mar Vista's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Allyson Bell, who put up 12 points and seven boards.

Coronado was led to victory by Selena Herrera and Gabby Fichter. Herrera had 21 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, while Fichter earned 18 points and three steals. Fichter has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played.

Mar Vista has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. As for Coronado, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mar Vista won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Castle Park at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Coronado, they will face off against Lincoln at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lincoln will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Coronado surely won't give up without a fight.
