Baseball Recap: Weed Wins Going Away Against Fall River

Weed won the last time they faced Fall River and things went their way on Friday too. The Cougars put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 12-2 win. Considering the Cougars have won seven games by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Conner Hosino made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has become a key player for Weed: the team is undefeated when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 7-9 otherwise. Hosino was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Jett Marshall was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Weed's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Mayson Aquila, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Weed was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fall River only posted a batting average of .211.

Weed is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Fall River, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-17.

Looking ahead, Weed will be playing at home against Tulelake at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. The Honkers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.17 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. Fall River does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
