Liberty has gone a perfect 9-0 against Garces Memorial recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Patriots will host the Rams at 7:30 p.m. Garces Memorial took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Liberty, who comes in off a win.
Liberty is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Centennial 49-20 on Thursday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Patriots' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 120th, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 378th).
Elmo Whitten produced another solid performance rushing for 110 yards and a pair of TDs on only ten carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 52 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Brogan Witcher was another key player, throwing for 144 yards and one touchdown while completing 75% of his passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Liberty was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 365 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for Liberty, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Brandon Thrasher, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Garces Memorial's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They received a blow as they fell 27-13 to Frontier. The game marked the Rams' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Garces Memorial didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Isaiah Flores and Isaiah Lefotu. Lefotu also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 13.
Liberty's victory bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Garces Memorial, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Liberty has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 176.1 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Garces Memorial, though, as they've been averaging only 78.9 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Liberty against Garces Memorial when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 51-9 win. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
