Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in prep basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023-24 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
For the season, Sabally averaged 13.0 points, 3.6 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game. In a 68-34 triumph over Thunder Mountain (Juneau) in the state title game, Sabally contributed a team-high 23 points points and hauled in nine rebounds while shooting 11 of 15 from the field.
Sabally led East in scoring in all three state tournament contests. He tallied 15 points, three assists, three rebounds and two steals in a 55-36 victory over Palmer in the state quarterfinals and posted 13 points and three steals in a 45-39 triumph over Monroe Catholic (Fairbanks) in the state semifinals.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released April 10.
