Baseball Recap: San Jose Takes a Loss

San Jose had lost six straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 7-16 to make it seven. They fell just short of the Overfelt Royals by a score of 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Ethan Yanez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of San Jose's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 3-15 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Soliz, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

As for Overfelt, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games.

On Overfelt's side, ELIJAH CASTANEDA-AZCUETA made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. CASTANEDA-AZCUETA has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Overfelt let ALFREDO GALLEGOS MEDINA and BRANDON GONZALEZ run wild. GALLEGOS MEDINA went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, while GONZALEZ went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits GALLEGOS MEDINA has posted since back in April. BRIAN BECERRA DADO was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
