Trabuco Hills waltzed into their match on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Everything went their way against the Capistrano Valley Cougars as they made off with an 18-8 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Sam Crouse made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Jake Sweet looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Evan Hall was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikey Gray, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Trabuco Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .532. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Trabuco Hills' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-7-1. As for Capistrano Valley, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-15-1.
