Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Win Is Coalinga's Seventh in Last Nine Outings

Coalinga never got on the board in their matchup last Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Tranquillity on Tuesday. They blew past the Tigers 18-1. The Horned Toads might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by nine runs or more this season.

Luke Wojewoda made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Manny Telles, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Noah Tasi, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Coalinga always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tranquillity only posted an OBP of .200.

Coalinga has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Tranquillity, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-11.

Looking ahead, Coalinga will square off against Dos Palos at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Broncos' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Horned Toads' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Tranquillity, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 15-0 defeat against Liberty on the 23rd.
