University Pathways Medical Magnet has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Gertz-Ressler Pumas at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
After soaring to a 22-point win in their last game, University Pathways Medical Magnet came back down to earth on Wednesday. They fell just short of Animo Robinson by a score of 37-34. While losing is never fun, University Pathways Medical Magnet can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1183rd, while the Monarchs are ranked 446th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Camila Alcaraz, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 rebounds and nine blocks. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last 13 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Gianna Benitez, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Gertz-Ressler lost to the on the road by a decisive 35-21 margin on Friday. Gertz-Ressler has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
University Pathways Medical Magnet's loss dropped their record down to 7-16. As for Gertz-Ressler, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.
University Pathways Medical Magnet strolled past the Pumas in their previous matchup on Friday by a score of 35-21. The rematch might be a little tougher for University Pathways Medical Magnet since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
