Even though the 21st Century Charter COUGARS scored an imposing 72 points on Friday, the Hammond Central Wolves still came out on top. Hammond Central had just enough and edged 21st Century Charter out 74-72. The win made it back-to-back wins for Hammond Central.
Hammond Central's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gregory Dotson, who scored 22 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Browder, who scored 25 points along with eight rebounds.
21st Century Charter's loss came despite strong showings from Ron Mosely and Terrence Hayes. Mosely scored 24 points along with four steals, while Hayes scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. The game was Hayes' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Lemetrius "Meachy" Williams, who scored six points along with 15 rebounds and six assists.
Even though they lost, 21st Century Charter were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Hammond Central pushed their record up to 5-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for 21st Century Charter, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.
Hammond Central will be home for the holidays to greet Crown Point at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for 21st Century Charter, they will head out on the road to face off against Hanover Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hanover Central is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
