While Sherman Oaks CES' win against Fulton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Knights narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Jaguars 9-8.
Sherman Oaks CES got a big performance out of Sebastian Hamilton, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was Hamilton's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brody Brooks, who earned two runs and four stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Chavez got the win against Arleta on Thursday by a conclusive 12-2.
Xavier Salas made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Salas was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Joey Uribe was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Chavez's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 4-1 (and 6-13 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Garcia, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Chavez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They are 7-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Sherman Oaks CES' win bumped their record up to 20-1. As for Chavez, their victory bumped their record up to 10-14.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sherman Oaks CES has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .541. However, it's not like Chavez struggles in that department as they've averaged .443. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
