Baseball Recap: Ripon Christian Starts Season with Victory Against Gustine

Ripon Christian took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Gustine Reds as the Ripon Christian Knights made off with a 15-5 victory. For the Knights, this counts as revenge for the 3-2 win the Reds walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Trenton Cloward made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Cloward was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Josh Buffalow and Jordan Luisi did most of the damage at the plate: Buffalow scored two runs and stole six bases while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances, while Luisi scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Luisi a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Tom Giulian, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Ripon Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive matches dating back to last season.

This is the second loss in a row for Gustine and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Ripon Christian didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-0 victory against Waterford on the 19th. As for Gustine, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 10-0 win against Pacheco on the 19th.
