When it comes to explaining why Neligh-Oakdale lost, one person who can't be blamed is Hailey Horstmann. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The matchup was Horstmann's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Mallory Belitz, who scored five points.
Lutheran-Northeast's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emerson Scott, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Scott scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney Rose-hancock, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Neligh-Oakdale's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Lutheran-Northeast, their win bumped their record up to 1-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Neligh-Oakdale will face off against Niobrara/Verdigre at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Lutheran-Northeast will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Howells-Dodge at 6:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024.
