Williamson has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Sayre Redskins at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Williamson will be strutting in after a victory while Sayre will be coming in after a loss.
Williamson posted their biggest win since December 8, 2023 on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 46-16 victory over Athens at home. Given Williamson's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 268th, while Athens is ranked 561st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Williamson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Rae Jones, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and seven steals. Jones hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Madisen Jones was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven steals.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Sayre, who are still winless after their 13th matchup. They suffered a rough 41-18 defeat at the hands of Wellsboro on Monday. Sayre has not had much luck with Wellsboro recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Sayre's loss came about despite a quality game from Abbie McGaughey, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McGaughey has scored all season.
Williamson's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Sayre, they bumped their record down to 0-13 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Everything came up roses for Williamson against Sayre when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 60-20 win. With Williamson ahead 30-7 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
