The Capuchino Mustangs will head out to take on the Junipero Serra Padres at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Capuchino will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
Capuchino proved they can win big on Friday (they won by seven) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Terra Nova 4-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
John Ferreira looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Andres Gomez was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Jordan Estrella also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Junipero Serra won against Sacred Heart Prep on Thursday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. Junipero Serra came out on top against Los Gatos by a score of 6-1. The win continues a trend for the Padres in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.
Ian Josephson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. Josephson is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
In other pitching news, Richie Calderon looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
Josephson wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Harrison, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Capuchino pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Junipero Serra, their record now sits at 3-0.
Junipero Serra's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Capuchino has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .492. It's a different story for Junipero Serra, though, as they've only averaged .343. Will they be able to contain Capuchino's hitters?
Capuchino came out on top in a nail-biter against Junipero Serra when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Capuchino since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
