Newton is 2-8 against Hutchinson since September of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Railroaders will look to defend their home field against the Salthawks at 7:00 p.m. Newton has given up an average of 38.3 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Newton is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They lost to Andover on the road by a 42-27 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Railroaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Trojans are ranked 48th).
Newton's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kolbie Espada, who rushed for 45 yards and two TDs, and Landyn Rains, who picked up 84 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hutchinson, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They claimed a resounding 42-0 win over Haysville Campus. The Salthawks haven't had any issues with the Colts recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Newton better keep an eye on Robert Hunter. He was instrumental in Hutchinson's win, rushing for 156 yards and one score on only ten carries, while also throwing for 147 yards and three touchdowns. Hunter's longest rush was for an impressive 62 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Larry Jeremiah was Hunter's top target, picking up 30 receiving yards and one TD, while also punching in one score on the ground.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hutchinson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 253 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.
Hutchinson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Eli Parks and Lian Hedricks. Jackson Anderson was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 11 total tackles (1.5 for loss).
Hutchinson's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Newton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
Newton was dealt a bruising 56-0 loss at the hands of Hutchinson in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Will the Railroaders have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other football content.
