The Newport Harbor Sailors will face off against the Fountain Valley Barons at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Newport Harbor comes in on three and Fountain Valley on five.
Newport Harbor's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Wednesday, when they got past Northview's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Sailors blew past the Vikings 10-2.
The team relied heavily on Adam Martin, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Ryan Williams, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Martin wasn't the only one making solid contact: Newport Harbor kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for the Sailors: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.
Meanwhile, Fountain Valley had just enough and edged out Edison 4-3 last Friday.
Tyler Peshke made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one hit in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
In other pitching news, Logan Hunt tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk).
Peshke wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Cortez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Fountain Valley's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Newport Harbor, their win bumped their record up to 14-5.
Newport Harbor came up short against Fountain Valley in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 6-2. Can the Sailors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
