This season hasn't been kind to the McDowell Trojans, who are still winless after their fourth match. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Wednesday and fell 48-47 to Horizon. While losing is never fun, McDowell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 397th in Pennsylvania, while Horizon is ranked 18th in Colorado).
It was another big night for Morgan Ives, who scored 20 points along with three steals for Horizon. The matchup was Ives' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Kaitlin Schumann was another key contributor, scoring six points along with ten rebounds.
McDowell has fallen quite a ways from their 18-7 record last season and are now at 0-4. As for Horizon, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.
McDowell won't have much time to rest: their next match is against James Madison at 2:30 p.m. on December 21st. Horizon will take on Tournament Opponent in a holiday battle at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at. Tournament Opponent has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
