LaCrosse had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They snuck past the St. John Tigers with a 28-24 win on Friday. For the Leopards, this counts as revenge for the 46-0 victory the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.
LaCrosse's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lee Holopirek, who rushed for 82 yards and two scores. Holopirek didn't just play on offense: he also made ten total tackles and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception. LaCrosse also got a significant boost from Christian Rush, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 106 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to LaCrosse's defense and their three sacks. Alexander Hiemstra was especially locked on to St. John's QB and sacked him twice.
Looking ahead, LaCrosse will be playing in front of their home fans against Logan/Palco at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. John has already played their next matchup (against Ness City), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
