The Encinal Jets waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They strolled past St. Joseph Notre Dame with points to spare, taking the game 51-35. Given Encinal's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 340th, while St. Joseph Notre Dame is ranked 712th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Encinal got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lola Whalen out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Whalen has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazzy Alcantar, who scored 16 points along with nine steals and eight rebounds.
Encinal has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for St. Joseph Notre Dame, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Encinal will take on Hayward at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hayward will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for St. Joseph Notre Dame, they will be playing at home against Berkeley at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
