Two dominant guards in Haley Litzelman and Kailyn Sterling are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The North Penn-Liberty Mountie will be playing in front of their home fans against the Troy Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. North Penn-Liberty has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up ten more assists than your opponent, a fact North Penn-Liberty proved on Friday. They came out on top against Sayre by a score of 44-34.
North Penn-Liberty's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kendall Graham, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds, and Tierney Patterson, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds. It was the first time this season that Patterson scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Litzelman, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Troy had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.3 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Wednesday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 50-49 win over Williamson.
Troy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sterling led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 19 rebounds. Katie Lackey was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds.
North Penn-Liberty's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-9. As for Troy, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.
North Penn-Liberty didn't have too much breathing room in their game against the Trojans when the teams last played back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 54-48 win. Does North Penn-Liberty have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
