Baseball Recap: St. Francis Comes Up Short

St. Francis had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 9-8 to make it five. They fell just short of the Cabrillo Conquistadores by a score of 3-2. The Sharks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Conquistadores apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Nicholas Fantl put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because St. Francis is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Fantl was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

In other batting news, Nash Horton made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

As for Cabrillo, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

On Cabrillo's side, Jacob Low tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Low has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Blake Gregory, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.

St. Francis didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-5 defeat against Maranatha on the 24th. As for Cabrillo, they have also already played their next matchup, a 12-4 win against Central Catholic on the 24th.
