The Esparto Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 20th straight loss dating back to last season. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 42-21 walloping at the hands of Williams. The match was a close 13-12 at the break, but unfortunately for Esparto it sure didn't stay that way.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lisandra Martinez, who scored nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Riata Chappell, who scored eight points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Williams to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lupita Zuniga, who scored 14 points along with seven steals and five blocks. That makes it four consecutive games in which Zuniga has scored at least 25% of Williams' points. Another player making a difference was Caitlyn Ruiz, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Esparto bumped their record down to 0-2 with that loss, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.7 points per game. As for Williams, their victory bumped their record up to 1-5.
Esparto will head out on the road to face off against Buckingham Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Buckingham Charter comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 11 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Williams and Willows will face off at 6:30 p.m. on December 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Willows is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
