The Rodriguez Mustangs lost against the Wood Wildcats back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Rodriguez fell 58-45 to Wood. Rodriguez has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Rodriguez's loss came despite strong showings from Mia Marquez and Gabriella Williams. Marquez scored 21 points, while Williams scored 15 points. That was a full 46.7% of Rodriguez's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Wood got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Natalia Sanchez out in front who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Sanchez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Tianna Palmer, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Rodriguez has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-18 record this season. As for Wood, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 14-11 record this season.
Rodriguez will head out on the road to take on Fairfield at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Rodriguez is coming into the matchup with four straight defeats on the road, meaning Fairfield will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. As for Wood, they will take on Armijo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Armijo comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last nine games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
