After four games on the road, Crete is heading back home. They will take on the Wahoo Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Crete only won by two when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 28-point they dealt the Warriors on Tuesday. Crete blew past the Warriors, posting a 51-23 victory on the road. Given Crete's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while the Warriors are ranked 255th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Wahoo ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past Malcolm 46-44. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 12 to 4 on the offensive boards, as Wahoo did.
Wahoo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sidney Smart led the charge by scoring 14 points along with two steals and two blocks. Smart is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Gretchen Seagren, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Crete's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points per game. As for Wahoo, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-7.
Crete was taken down by the Warriors 54-26 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Crete was down 37-9.
