The El Capitan Vaqueros won the last time they faced the Santana Sultans, and things went their way on Friday too. El Capitan came out on top against Santana by a score of 60-47. The win made it back-to-back wins for El Capitan.
El Capitan's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Andy Novelo-Gerardo, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 21 rebounds. Novelo-Gerardo is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Wilson, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Several Sultans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was AJ Kane, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds. Jeffrey Van Oostende was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
El Capitan is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which lines up perfectly with their 15-5 record this season. As for Santana, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-12.
El Capitan will head out on the road to challenge Grossmont at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Santana, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Mount Miguel at 6:30 p.m. Mount Miguel is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60.1 points per game.
