After a string of three wins, the Carpinteria Warriors's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 64-48 bruising from Santa Paula. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Carpinteria of the 63-36 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Despite the defeat, Carpinteria saw an underclassman step up: Jamaica Cook dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cook has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Armarisse Camargo, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Santa Paula's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aryanna Lopez, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. Lopez hasn't dropped below 16 points for eight straight games. Jalynn Rico was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Carpinteria's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-8. As for Santa Paula, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carpinteria will stay at home for another game and welcome the Flashes at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. Fillmore comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Santa Paula, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. Hueneme is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
